Foreign law practitioners studied the court system of Estonia
06.04.2010
Judges from Romania, Italy, Poland and Holland, and a prosecutor from Italy visited Estonia from 15 to 26 March within the scope of the exchange programme organised by the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN).
During the first week, the participants visited different courts and institutions such as the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu, the Ministry of Justice and Tartu Prison. During the second week of the exchange, the participants worked with the judges of county courts and learned about their everyday work.
“The Supreme Court has been a member of the EJTN since 2007, but this is the first time Estonia hosted foreign judges who participated in the exchange programme,” said Tanel Kask, Head of the Training Department of the Supreme Court.
EJTN (European Judicial Training Network) is the cooperation network of institutions in European Union Member States that train judges and prosecutors. The network’s headquarters are located in Brussels. EJTN was established on 13 October 2000 in order to improve cooperation between the different organisations engaged in training judges and to organise joint training events.
